I immigrated to the United States from Armenia over nine years ago, driven by a deep curiosity about American generosity and philanthropy. I was struck by how quickly people come together to create impact—locally and globally—often through churches, nonprofits, and community organizations, even for causes far from home.
At the same time, diasporic communities around the world remain deeply connected to their homelands, most often supporting them through remittances rather than collective, organized action. This contrast sparked a central question: How can diasporas learn from American philanthropic culture to unite, institutionalize their support, and become a stronger force for positive change back home?
These questions inspired Beyond Borders: Diaspora—a podcast featuring conversations with people living outside their homelands who are making an impact locally and globally. Through personal stories and honest dialogue, we explore identity, community, and the power of diaspora to shape the future.
Season one focuses on the Armenian Diaspora, with more communities to come.
